Frequently Asked Questions

Is your soap suitable for sensitive skin?

Absolutely. Each bar of soap is made with just four simple, skin-friendly ingredients. We don’t use synthetic chemicals or artificial fragrances, only essential oils and plant-derived colorants. Assuring that our soap is suitable for sensitive skin is a major focus for us as we develop our products

Why do you use beef tallow in your soap?

Tallow creates a creamy, moisturizing bar that holds up well in the shower. It's rich in nutrients like vitamins A, D, E, and K, and has been used for centuries in natural and traditional skincare. We source ours responsibly from local farmers and believe in using the whole animal to minimize waste.

Do you use lye?

Yes, lye (sodium hydroxide) is an essential part of making real soap. It’s been used for thousands of years in the traditional process of turning oils or fats into soap, called saponification. When lye reacts with oils like tallow, it creates a completely new substance: soap.

Here’s what matters most. after this reaction and a full curing period, no lye remains in the finished bar. It’s all been transformed. What you’re left with is pure soap and natural glycerin, which helps keep skin hydrated.

We carefully calculate each batch so there’s just the right amount of lye to react with the oils, and we even “superfat” our bars slightly. That means we leave in a small extra amount of skin-nourishing oils to make sure our soap is gentle and moisturizing, and to guarantee absolutely no lye remains.

Lye in its raw form is strong and should be handled with care, but it is not present in the final product. If a company claims to sell lye-free soap, they’re likely using misleading terms or selling synthetic detergent bars instead.

We believe in being honest and using real, time-tested methods to make high-quality soap.

Is your soap vegan?

No, it’s not. Our bars are 100% beef tallow, which is an animal fat. While that may not align with a vegan lifestyle, it is natural, fully biodegradable, and supports the concept of nose-to-tail sustainability. We also source our tallow from grass-fed farms to ensure it is harvested cruelty-free.

Do your soaps contain synthetic fragrances or chemicals?

No. We never use fragrance oils or lab-made additives. Scent comes only from pure essential oils, and color comes from edible plants. That means no parabens, no sulfates, and nothing artificial.

What gives your soap its color?

Every bit of color in our soap comes from real plants. We use things like turmeric, cinnamon or beetroot to color the bars. It’s a natural, non-toxic way to make each soap unique—free of any synthetic dyes.

How long does a bar last?

On average, each bar lasts about 3-4 weeks with regular use. If you let it dry completely between uses it can last even longer.

Can I use this soap on my face?

Definitely. Our soap is gentle and moisturizing, which makes it suitable for the face as well as every part of the body.

Is your soap safe for kids or babies?

Yes, our soap is made with gentle, natural ingredients, but when it comes to babies and little ones, we like to be extra cautious. We always recommend our unscented version for the most sensitive skin, and suggest doing a small patch test first.

What’s the shelf life of your soap?

Our bars stay good for years if stored properly. Just keep them in a cool, dry place and away from direct sunlight. Soap does not expire. the scent may fade slightly over time, but the soap itself remains effective.

Do you accept returns or offer refunds?

Because soap is a personal care product, we can’t take returns on used bars. But if something arrives broken, melted, or just not right, let us know. We’re happy to make it right.

Where is your soap made?

Each bar is handcrafted in small batches in Silverton Oregon. We’re a small artisan business proudly based in the U.S.

Are your soaps cruelty-free?

Yes. We don’t test on animals, ever. Our tallow is also sourced from grass-fed cows raised on cruelty free farms.

Do you offer unscented options?

We do. Our unscented tallow bar has no added essential oils, which makes it a great option for those with allergies, sensitivities, or anyone who just prefers no scent at all.

Does the soap smell like beef or animal fat?

No. The curing process removes any meaty scent from the tallow. What you’re left with is a clean, mild-smelling bar. Any scent you notice comes from the essential oils we add, or none at all, in our unscented version.

Do your soaps lather well without sulfates?

Yes, they lather beautifully. Tallow naturally produces a rich, creamy lather without the need for harsh foaming agents like SLS.
